The rising cases of rape and sexual violence in Nigeria is getting alarming. The Nigeria Police arrested 799 rape suspects between January and May this year.
Even more worrisome are the rising cases of religious leaders who have been caught violating minors, including their own children.
The Catholic Archbishop of Bishop, Dr. Kaigama, calls the growing rape culture as not only frightening but “repulsive and reprehensible as it is dehumanising”.
What should be the role of religious leaders in ending this scourge? How should the faith community respond to this pandemic? It is against this background, Community Life Project (CLP) and Lux Terra Foundation convened a webinar to discuss Ending rape and sexual violence in Nigeria: The role of Religious Leaders.
